Featured above is The New Yorker's daily cartoon from January 26, 2017, created by veteran conributor, Tom Toro. This cartoon was posted with the caption “Voter fraud is a total myth, but there is evidence that people voted for a total fraud.” Based upon this cartoon, it is evident that the author intended for the audience to be amused but also informed on a contradictory situation. As there has been no evidence of the voter fraud claimed to have happened in our most recent elections, the author shows that there is evidence regarding the fraudulence of our president. The showing of Donald Trump facing away portrays him as being uncooperative with or hiding from the media's commentary and questions. The author portrays reporters as being shocked and confused, as the haven't experienced this with previous presidents. The author draws Donald Trump with a small body and a suit that is greater in proportion. which shows that Donald trump in a sense is not filling the shoes of the presidency role showing with recent media reporting on these characteristics. (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/history-donald-trump-small-hands-insult/story?id=37395515) Through this cartoon, Toro generates a critical tone of The United State's new president which probably struck a nerve in Trump supporters. |
